Director and principal project manager Alex Van has the inside knowledge and the aptitude to get your project done right. Alex and his team pride themselves on their eye for details, whether it’s a modest home or a complex construction worth hundreds of millions.
Alex brings both extensive industry experience and formal training to the business. He has Masters and degree qualifications in Property and Construction, and a Bachelor of Planning and Design, from Melbourne University. He is a registered building practitioner, a member of the Housing Industry Association (HIA) and the Master Builders Association, and is an accredited GreenSmart professional.
Pre-construction planning
Maevcon knows that good planning is crucial for a great project, which is why we’re focused on using this first stage to ensure we meet your design criteria within your budget, while avoiding unnecessary planning and re-design issues. We’ll carefully assess your designs and stated needs, steer your early designs, create a feasible timetable, and address other crucial issues such as engineering plans and regulatory approvals. Alex has extensive experience with complex, high profile and sensitive sites and is confident of meeting your expectations.
Design
management
Maevcon can oversee every aspect of your project design, including liaison with architects, engineers, energy experts and other consultants as required. We’ll ensure that the form and function of your building project meets your requirements. With years in the industry, Alex understands that modern design process are complicated and should be carefully controlled to avoid problems. With Maevcon you can expect good communication, consistent documentation, careful allocation of resources and confident decision-making.


Value engineering management
Maevcon seeks to increase value and reduce costs without sacrificing quality in all our construction projects. We’ll assess the project data, identify cost saving opportunities, and select the best alternatives to save you money. And we’ll keep a close eye to ensure projects meet their objectives and stay within budget.
Project and construction program and scheduling
Having worked on some of Melbourne’s biggest construction projects, Maevcon knows how to meet your expectations and be pragmatic about getting the job done. We can help you program and schedule your construction by arranging key tasks in a sequence that’ll best match the project goals, avoiding delays and meeting the standards you’ve set, to an agreed timeframe and budget.
Tender management and procurement
We can guide you through this process by helping identify potential contractors and assessing whether they’ll meet the project’s requirements, and yours. We can also manage tenders by issuing requests for proposals and bids, evaluating responses, and negotiating contracts with preferred contractors. Having worked on projects to tight timelines, and using great contacts in the construction industry, we can help you get the best value for your investment.
Construction project management
Alex at Maevcon has a wealth of experience in managing construction projects for churches, medical researchers, big residential developers, government agencies, large corporate firms and single dwellings for families. That experience gives us confidence that we can oversee all aspects of your construction: from planning and design to budgeting, scheduling, and execution. We’ll steer your build safely, on time, and on budget, and keep a close eye on standards and regulations. We can manage subcontractors and suppliers and resolve issues and conflicts too. We love building and take pride in delivering the results you (and we) expect.
Builder
(main contractor)
Alex is a registered building practitioner who can manage and oversee your entire building project. You can entrust Maevcon with working with your architects, engineers and other subcontractors, working on the budget and timeline, and ensure your project meets all the required standards.
Management of building permits and occupancy permits
For peace of mind, we can ensure all your required permits are properly handled at each phase of your building project from before construction starts until moving in, to ensure that when you’re handed the keys, there aren’t loose ends.

Post completion defects and inspection management
To ensure you’re happy, we can also ensure that construction meets your expectations, after the build is done. We can organise detailed inspections and documentation, identify and prioritise building issues, plan fixes and verify that the work is done. Alex has dealt with post-construction issues many times in the past and knows how to resolve these kinds of problems in expert fashion. As we say, you’re “safe in our hands”.
